Electrical Engineer/ Technologist

Pineberry Manufacturing, located in Etobicoke, is a manufacture of automated packaging and custom paper handling machinery.
We are currently looking for an Electrical Engineer/ Technologist to work with design team on multiple projects.

Job Summary:
The Electrical Engineer/Technologist position fills a leading role on the design team for automated manufacturing systems.  Responsible for designing the required electrical controls packages and selecting and integrating a broad spectrum of components and subsystems including: servo controllers, logic controllers, I/O, power distribution, sensors, safety devices, communication devices, and cables.  Works on assignments that are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.  May determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other exempt and nonexempt personnel. 

Essential Functions:

  •  Create designs that satisfy contract specifications and all applicable design standards while meeting material budget constraints.
  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to power consumption, current capacity, shielding, signal integrity, risk assessment, etc., as related to automation machinery designs.
  •  Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to design a control system that will enable the system to perform its intended function safely and reliably.
  • Formulate and produce a complete electrical design package which includes detailed schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and material requisition forms, based on standard specifications and the customer´s requirements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Manager to create an Engineering Deliverables plan that when executed will satisfy the overall project schedule.
  • Monitor and report progress toward Engineering Deliverables to the Engineering Manager on a weekly basis.  Define and execute a recovery plan if Deliverables are not completed on schedule.
  • Provide technical mentoring and design leadership to Junior Engineers as needed.
  • Give technical direction to Electricians and Technicians as needed.
  • Consult regularly with Project Managers to report status, raise issues, take direction, and help where needed.
  • Participate in regular project status updates with Customers.
  • Present designs during internal and Customer project reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor´s Degree/Diploma in Engineering/Technology or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical, or controls technology. 
  • Five to Seven years´ experience designing  automation systems for the packaging, electronics, printing, medical device, and/or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Familiarity with applicable design standards including UL, NFPA, SEMI, EN, and others.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and electrical ladder diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of common electrical assembly techniques.
  • Must be capable of designing electrical controls designs from sketches or verbal concepts.
  • Must be capable of working as part of a team.
  • Must follow an organized, disciplined approach to the design process. 
  • Must exhibit professional and courteous communication and interaction under pressure with Customers, Vendors, Engineers, Electricians, Technicians, and other team members. 
  • Successful experience troubleshooting complex equipment during project startup phases.
  • Able to independently complete all specific responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and communication skills.
